Tamils and Sikhs celebrated the first day of their new year on April 14, which marks the birth of the Chittirai month. The holy and joyous occasion is annually observed on the first day of the Tamil solar calendar, which falls on April 14. This year, it is known as "Manmatha" (extraordinary).
